There Is Nothing Ordinary about Your Shirt

Planet Money created a video series about what it takes to make a t-shirt. The host says in the intro clip,

Behind this shirt, there is an entire world. And once you see that world, you realize, there is nothing ordinary about a simple t-shirt.

The videos are divided into five chapters:

  • Cotton
  • Machines
  • People
  • Boxes
  • You

Blogger Jess Dang says,

It gives you a true appreciation of our globalized world and all the hands that have touched that basic tee you’re wearing.

This immediately reminded me of Leonard Read’s “I, Pencil,” IFWE’s I, Smartphone, and the bewildering fact that no one person alone—other than God—has the ability to create a simple t-shirt by themselves.

What does it really take to make a simple t-shirt? Watch the video series here and leave your comments here
